Havant Sports Awards 2017 - 2nd February 2017

Tim
Dear All

Many months ago now a nomination was submitted to the above awards on behalf of the committee. The nomination was under the "Club of the Year" category and I am pleased to report that we have been shortlisted!

The event is at Havant Leisure Centre on Thursday 2nd February and consists of a light buffet at 7pm followed at 7.30pm by the awards themselves. Last year the juniors and the men's veterans were both runners up in their respective categories and a good time was had by all.

We have been allocated up to ten places and it would be great if we could find volunteers to represent the Club at this event.

Christine and Colin have offered to attend so far leaving up to eight places, so please post below to express an interest. I need to let the organiser's know numbers by 26th January.

Kind regards

Tim

Hi all

I need to confirm numbers this week so it would be good to know who would like to represent the club.

It is a fun evening with food and entertainment provided and a chance to hear about all the other clubs in the area and also more importantly perhaps a chance to spread the word about the Cutters.

I have asked for 10 spots but so far only have

Colin
Christine and
Dee

Cheers

Hi Tim,
I'm happy to try and balance the m/f ratio a bit and help spread the word about the Cutters.

Hi Cutters,
I think more members should turn up if possible to show that we are a well-supported active club......any takers?
The last one of these presentations that I attended showed off our redoubtable youngsters in a (well deserved) good light. How about club members joining in to show what the rest of the Cutters can do?

I'll be there. The more of us that go the better our publicity.  Yes wearing cutters tops and jeans.  Also the more of us that go the more social it will be.  When we have all names we can sort car shares.  I think Tim needs the names by this Thursday.  It's a 7pm start with buffet, so if you couldn't make until 7.30pm, you'll just miss the food!

Here is the criteria and the evidence that was submitted - note restricted to 300 words!!

The Club of the Year Award recognises exceptional commitment to developing a club and the activities and services it offers to its local community. Please explain in no more than 350 words how the club meets the below criteria, please include why they deserve to win Club of the Year The significant impact the work of the club has had over the last 12 months and how this has benefitted the local community

"Langstone Cutters Rowing Club is truly inclusive providing as it does opportunities for local people of all ages. The year 2016 saw the Club continue to grow with over 100 members aged from 10 to 80.

It is a true local club offering free taster sessions every Sunday with specific support for juniors.

The club embraces the local environment and promotes the considerate usage of Chichester and Langstone Harbours celebrating and promoting the wildlife in the area.

The club is run by a small committee of volunteers and operates out of half of a rented garage in Langstone and relies on the generosity of local residents to store their small fleet of traditional rowing boats and their trailers.

A reflection of the Clubs inclusive nature is clear in the results achieved in the Great River Race 2016 the “British Traditional Fixed Seat Rowing Championships” held over a 21.6 mile course along the River Thames in September 2016

This year the club entered nine boats crewed by over 50 people aged from 12 to 73 years of age in a field of 320 other boat. The club returned to Langstone the proud winners of the following categories

Under 16 and second in the under 18
Ladies and Ladies Veterans
Over 60’s and
The mens veteran (over 40) crew won their class and were placed in third positon overall.

Club members use this event every year to raise money for a charitable cause and 2016 was no exception with over £900 being raised for Rowans Hospice in memory of Shelley Cook a club member who sadly passed away in 2016.

The club is committed to developing players, coaches, officials and volunteers

Langstone Cutters is operated by and on behalf of the members and invests a considerable amount of time in developing the skills of all members through providing, coaching, first aid and water safety training for all.

Junior members are supported in achieving Duke of Edinburgh awards and more senior members are given the chance to get back into exercise in a supportive inclusive environment."

Club is likely to have achieved or be working towards Clubmark or similar club accreditation.

"The nature of the club means that it is unlikely to achieve a broader club recognition mark but instead invests time more in individual development for members."
